Dell shuts down when BE750G goes to battery

Computer
Dell XPS435t full tower
2 SATA HD's
6GB
i7 processor
24" Dell monitor (2409)

This is a new BE750G charged for 16 hours.
Discovered the problem when I first did a self test with PowerChute software.
Partway through self test, computer monitor powered down, 4 beeps/30 secs from UPS.
Computer kept "trying" to power up repeatedly, but would not (fan noise, hd noise for about 1 sec on each attempt)

I think this UPS is too small for the computer even though I used the selector on the APC site. I only need power for about 5 minutes, long enough to shut down properly.
I know I'm near the top of what this UPS provides, but I trusted the selector.
PowerChute software says I'm at 20% of load, 100% charge, providing 70-80 watts of power.

I did some trouble shooting:
Eventually unplugged everything but the tower from the battery side of the UPS, pulled the UPS plug, computer shut down, 4 beeps/30 sec from UPS, computer "attempts" to start but fails.
I pulled the tower from the UPS and loaded the battery side with some other devices and repeated. UPS performed fine.

So I'm thinking the UPS is not powerful enough. The thing that bothers me is that I used APC's selector and I don't know yet if Best Buy will exchange it.
I'm not ready to dump APC as a product (yet; I have others). But it seems the product selector on the site needs some tweaking.

So . . . anyone else experience the shutdowns, or trying this model on Dell full towers?
Advice? (calling Best Buy now)

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Found the answer to my own question:

The Dell (and maybe others) require pure sine wave in battery mode.
Found this info in a Dell forum.
So now I need to consider if it's worth it to spend $300 on a Smart-UPs

I've gone back to APC's selector and reconfigured using make and model number of my Dell.
The selector still suggests a BACK-UPS unit; no mention of the SUA models.
I know there's a disclaimer at the bottom of the page, but it still suggests a problem with APC's support through their website.
I will now consider other brands. Seems I can't trust APC's own recommendations.

Unhappy

(Here's a reply from APC in another post:)

I recommend you to purchase either APC Smart UPS SUA1000 or SUA1500 UPS. These units output pure sine wave.

SUA1000 UPS details:

Output Power Capacity: 670 Watts / 1000 VA
Output Connections: (8) NEMA 5-15R-Battery Backup plus surge protections outlets
Click here to view the UPS runtime and technical specifications.

SUA1500 UPS details:
Output Power Capacity: 980 Watts / 1440 VA
Output Connections: (8) NEMA 5-15R -Battery Backup plus surge protections outlets
Click here to view the UPS runtime and technical specifications.

I hope that this helps. Please let me know if you have any question.
