Connect UPS USB and Serial Data Port to two devices
I just purchased the UPS Pro BX1500M. My primary devices to protect are my Mac computer and my Synology NAS (Linux--based network storage). Each device has the ability to connect via a USB port to the UPS unit and initiate a controlled shutdown if battery backup is in use more than X minutes or other parameters which I set.
Sorry, but neither will work with the UPS. A UPS can only have one device communicating with it via USB. You could connect the UPS to the Mac and use Apple scripts to trigger the NAS's shutdown. Or, do the opposite and run a script on the NAS that will power down the MAC.
