I've had two of these units for several years now with no issues. A few weeks ago, I started having issues where the server that was connected to it would die randomly. I finally figured out that the problem was with the ups and noticed that the replace battery light was on. When I unlugged the unit, the server lost power. Today, out of nowhere, the replace battery light on the second unit started blinking very fast and the unit was chirping just as fast. I unlugged the unit and the server died. I was going to replace the batteries but then a guy with APC tech support said I need to replace the unit. Are there any tests I can run or what could I check to verify that it is either the batteries or the unit itself that is bad ? I don't want to replace the unit(s) if I don't have to, but I don't want to waste money on batteries if it's a waste of time either. Thanks for any help you can give me.

the replace battery light flashing rapidly means that the unit thinks the battery is disconnected. this can be caused by the battery actually being disconnected or the voltage just being so low on the battery that the unit doesnt even see it there anymore. if you can, you may want to check the voltage on the batteries and see what you get..RARELY this can be erroneous (this would be a case where you need to replace the UPS versus the battery and just be cosmetic), if so its a problem with the UPS circuitry..but the fact that you pulled the plug and the computer turned off makes it clear to me that either the battery is disconnected or the voltage is too low.

batteries last 3-5 years or so, depending on usage..when is the last time it was replaced?

Thanks for the reply. The units are at least 4 years old and the batteries have never been replaced. I'll check the voltages just to be sure but I have a gut feeling they are bad.
