I am running the Windows Home Server on a standard Compaq small form factor desktop with two HD and a DVD drive. I just purchased a new Back UPS ES 350 to keep it going during short power outages. There is also an external USB hard drive and my router plugged into the battery side of the UPS. There is a LaserJet 1200 and an HP All-in-One printer are plugged into the surge side. I did not install any software wtih the backup but the server/computer does see the battery condition.
Last week while I was sitting in the room with the unit there the lights flashed several times and then went out for about 20 seconds. My other computers in the room wtih battery backups kept going without intruption but the server shut down immediately. The Back UPS ES 350 was giving a steady very annoying shrill noise. I tried to shut the ES 350 down wtih the switch but it would not turn off. I finally unpluged it and the noise stopped. Once I got the server up again I tested the backup by unplugging it and the server went down again.
Things seem to be back to normal a little later and I can now unplug the backup and the server stays up. When unplugged the UPS give four beeps about every 30 seconds.
I have several questions, first what happened to the UPS when the power went out? Is there sometihg wrong with my UPS?
Next, do I need to be running any software on Windows Home Server to make sure this does not happen again? I am told the software needs to be Windows Server 2003 WHQL compliant and I do not see this as a download on the APC site.
Thanks
Walter

If there were a problem with the UPS, you wouldn't be receiving power while it's in an online state.
Keep in mind that a 350-VA back-ups is only capable of 165W. I think you're FAR exceeding that.
Secondly, there is no official support for WHS, I think you'll have to configure whatever that has for Native within Control Panel & Power Options.
