6 outlet APC Back-UPS ES UPS, 350 VA or 550VA etc
I have a few of these at my house - for the computer / TV/stereo and when I lose power at 3 am it's a cacophony of loud beeping noises waking everyone in the house until power its restored / or the ups is unplugged / or the batteries die. It's wasting the battery - BEEPING!
Actually I'd prefer to install a switch to enable/disable the beep - which wires to cut ?
Can someone tell me how to NOT have them beep ? But I do like having it, so I do not need to reprogram everything. I know there is a reason FOR the beep and for the one I have for medical reasons I NEED the beep to wake me. But I do NOT need to be woken up to tell me that the VCR has lost power and have to get out of bed - go downstairs - in the dark - fumbling to unplug the UPS - it really defeats the whole purpose.
I have an old Smart-UPS 600 and the silence button on the front works great. For these newer ones - if you're targeting the consumer - make it consumer friendly - and have an on/off switch to enable/disable the speaker.

Hello,
There is no API for PowerChute Personal in Mac. If you open the software in package viewer, you can see the internals of the software. The only option for disabling sounds is hooking the UPS to a Windows box, installing the software to disable the sounds, then move the UPS back to the Mac machine.
Thanks.

Is this possible with the version of the PowerChute software installed under OS X? I can see no options there for changing the notification settings.

Hello,
Unfortunately disabling the sounds through PowerChute Personal Edition for Mac OSX is not an option.

Well, that is contrary to what an APC support rep told me a short while ago, he had suggested that my issue may have been that my version of OS X wasn't supported (10.4.10), and that PowerChute only ran up to 10.4.5 (officially). So, setting up another Mac to see if I somehow get different menus apparently won't work.
I suspect that he may have still been referring to Windows documentation. It is unfortunate that the Mac version of the software lacks features found in other versions.

Is the problem in the Powerchute software for OSX that it hasnt been implemented or is it a firmware problem?
Is there any way we OS X user may get the API s that we can control the UPS with self developed software? (Yes my company is a softwarecompany that needs to use a UPS in our system)
That would be most helpfull.
