Can be a surge protection repaired? (PF8VNT3-FR)

Hello there!

I have PF8VNT3-FR surge protection for a few years and I am ultimately satisfied with it.

But recently there were a series of heavy thunderstorm in my area and unfortunately the

phone line on the street got damaged. Many of people have got their modems and routers

damaged, some got damaged also the network cards on the motherboards of computers.

Well, I noticed that there is a problem when I found my internet connection not working.

The DSL line indicator on my router was not flashing neither was turned on. I tried to bypass

the surge protection and connect DSL line directly to router. After that my internet connection

started to work. Fortunately no equipment (except for surge protection) got damaged.

The surge protection (PF8VNT3-FR) worked fine and did the job.

But now, is there a way to repair it somehow? I mean really repair, fix, no swapping for another protection.

I know on older surge protections there were changeable fuses somewhere. And for PF8VNT3-FR?

Also this model is no longer distributed and being sold in my country. I find newer models not so good.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Best regards,

kajsmentke

Yeah it can be repaired, but it depends on which method you choose. As the surge protector covers the sensitive devices and protect it from electrical surges, it needs to be handle with proper care. It would be better that you go on with consulting an expert electrician like Electricians Conshohocken PA, Durant electric team or with someone else from your area. These experts have the thorough knowledge of managing the electrical equipments and can solve your problem easily. Hope this will help you in solving your problem.

Hi kajsmentke,

I don't believe we repair any of our surge protectors in any region no matter the model or type but even better news.. In reviewing the product page @ http://www.apc.com/shop/fr/fr/products/APC-Performance-SurgeArrest-8-outlets-with-Phone-Coax-Network... , there is a lifetime warranty on this in EU countries. I think that means for you and your location in your profile that you can contact local technical support in your area with the model SKU (PF8VNT3-FR) along with the serial number that is probably on the bottom of it, and get a brand new unit under warranty.

Technically, yes, it might be possible to repair the unit by replacing any damaged parts. Realistically I don't think it's a good idea. A surge suppressor that's no longer working has usually suffered serious internal damage that you can't fix. Even if it was repaired, there is no guarantee that it would ever work properly again. Safety is also a very valid concern.

No more than they cost, it's not a chance I'd take. And as Angela pointed out, APC may well provide a lifetime warranty on this product.

Thank you very much for your help.

I will contact the APC in my country. Hopefully I will get my surge protection replaced for free.

I have not registered that surge protection on the APC website, hope that does not matter.

And ... the strange thing is that in manual there is written - if the surge protection unit is defective,

the diode signalizing complete surge protection should not be light up. But it is still shining green ... hm.
