On Sunday, I unpacked and charged my Back UPS ED 350 over night. Then I plugged my pc into the Battery Backup connectors (not surge only).
Today we had a short power outage, and my computer and monitor lost power. When power came back, things got power again. I checked that I was plugged into Battery Backup recepts, and unplugged UPS from wall - everything lost power, but the green light blinked and I got a beep every 15 seconds. The breaker's not tripped (duh, else it wouldn't provide power when plugged in), and no "building wiring" light.
I removed the UPS and plugged it in in another room, and plugged a spare VCR into it. When it is plugged into the wall, the VCR has power, when unplugged, no power to VCR, but green light blinks and ups beeps every 15 seconds. I rechecked the battery - properly plugged in.
I read something about a reset procedure or a desensitization procedure, but can't find anything.
I have never plugged the data cable in or used the software on any of my machines.
Any help appreciated - I can take it back to Fry's, I guess. Thanks!
Charlie

The standard on battery beep is 4 beeps every 30 seconds, is that what you are hearing?
Also, installing the software may help to give you some information as to what's going on. Perhaps the battery is low. You can desensitize the unit in the software as well. That may help if you have slightly dirty power that causes very quick switches to battery and back to online. That would potentially wear down the battery over time.
You would need that data cable hooked up to install the software obviously.

Thanks for your reply!
y - 4 beeps 30 secs.
All of my other APC UPSs work fine on this power. BTW, when I bought this one, I bought two, so I charged the second one last night and put it in service today and I'll watch it for a few days, and pull the AC plug periodically.
I won't be installing the software. If that's the only way to desens, I'll just return this one.

Care to post the first six digits of your serial number for the dead unit?
It would be in the format
xx#### ######
If you need help locating the serial number, refer to this link

That's the model number... There should be another set of numbers.

In this instance, like KVar said, it's possible the battery is discharged. However, based on what's occurring and it being isolated to a problem with the battery, the battery will be replaced, not the unit.
