I bought a new BGM1500 , connected the red terminal, plugged it in and started it and all the plugs work, the battery work, as well as the LED lights. The information buttom works because I see it cycling the LEDs, but the LCD never turns on. It just stays dark. Except for the LCD everything seems to function as it should.

I would suggest you contact APC Technical Support to see if they can help reset the unit. Failing that they can help initiate a RMA for the hardware.
You’ll need the purchase receipt, serial number, and a brief description of the problem.
Let us know how everything turns out.

What happens when you follow the user manual on page 7 which I have appended here.
Press the Information button for 0.2 seconds and cycle through the menu?
The last option is to turn off the LCD.

When pressing the information button, the LED around the LCD turns blue, to another color, to off and eventually back to blue again, but as stated, the LCD shows nothing.
