Batteryvoltage raises continously if Battery is not installed

I ordered a new Replacement Battery for one of my Back-UPS RS800 (RBC32) which did not work in any of my 3 UPS.
The Phenomen was that the Battery had 12.1V directly after removing from the UPS and raised continously up to over 18V!
All UPS gave me the Error "Overload" and "Replace Battery". After my 3rd Call to APC, they promised me to send me a new
Battery and that I can throw the bad one, even if it is a new one....

Thank You APC for the good Support

I have to put the bad Battery outside because I don't know what happens when the Voltage raises any more....

Update: this morning, the Battery had 18.85V and is raising further

Hi Christian,

The RBC32 is actually a 24vdc battery configuration. The nominal voltage of the battery should read around 24-25vdc, when disconnected from the UPS following an adequate charge. The fact that you were reading 12.1vdc following immediate removal from the UPS would lead me to believe the battery is old and is under significant strain when installed. Once removed from the configuration, the battery will naturally attempt to return to the nominal state or battery voltage in this case.
