I just replaced the batteries on my APC RS 1500 UPS, plugged it in and made sure that the circuit breaker wasn't tripped. When I turned it on, it beeps 4 times and the "on battery" light stays on, after briefly switching to "on line" momentarily, then it beeps 4 times and the "on battery" light stays on. Is this normal until the new batteries get fully charged?

Bill,
I measured the voltage from each individual battery fully charged at 13.7 volts and 13.8 volts, so the replacement batteries are not at fault. I keep the UPS sensitivity on "Low" and it seems to stay on AC power.
My only concern is with the APC unit itself. If I remove AC power from the UPS, or run a self test, it says that it has less than 20 seconds before putting my computer in hibernation, even though PowerChute 3.0.2 says I have much more battery time remaining. When I cancel the hibernation option it finishes the self test and passes it. I only have the one computer and monitor connected to it, less than 170 Watts. What could the problem be?
Thank you,
Ivan

I left the UPS plugged in, but turned off all night. I have my computer plugged in directly to an AC outlet. The PowerChute software reports that the battery is 100% charged, but when I turn the unit on, it still beeps and says that it is running on battery power. It won't revert back to on line AC power source. Please, can anyone help?
Thank you.

Hi,
It may be an issue with the sensitivity. The default setting is medium. Change the setting to low. If that does not resolve the issue reset the unit.
1: Disconnect any attached load.
2: Unplug the UPS from the wall socket.
3: Disconnect the UPS' internal battery.
4: Push and hold the "On" button on the UPS for 5 seconds
5: Reconnect internal battery.
6: Plug UPS in to known good power source.
7: Turn UPS on.

Bill,
Thank you for your suggestions. I did exactly what you said, and only when I changed the sensitivity to LOW, did it operate normally. There are a few more questions that I have. First, PowerChute no longer shows estimated remaining battery time, just dashes. It says that "Your battery backup is operating normally". Also, when I ran the self test, when it automatically went to battery, it warned me that it would put my computer in Hibernation unless I cancelled it. After cancelling it, it continued the test and it passed. I only have a tower computer and monitor connected, drawing 164 Watts.
I am running PowerChute Personal Edition Version 2.0 and when I click on update software, it tells me that a Version 3.0.2 is currently available. Would that be for my system (Personal Edition)? It says Microsoft .NET FRAMEWORK 2.0 (sp2) x86 is required to install/run the software. I have Windows XP Pro 32 bit (sp3) with .NET FRAMEWORK 4.0 Extended installed already. I don't understand why they're asking for an earlier version of FRAMEWORK.
Thank you so much for your help.
Ivan

Hi,
On 10/30/2017 9:48 PM, Ivan said:I have Windows XP Pro 32 bit (sp3) with .NET FRAMEWORK 4.0 Extended installed already. I don't understand why they're asking for an earlier version of FRAMEWORK.
The reason PCPE required .NET 2 is to allow it it work with older OS such as yours. Not all people running older versions of Windows upgrade .NET. If PCPE were to be upgraded to required a newer version of .NET greater than .NET 3.5 people would be required to upgrade .NET to install PCPE so the decision was made to leave as is for now. Prior to the release of .NET 4 when say .NET 3.5 was install .NET 2 was included in the install so it was available for PCPE.
You can continue to run PCPE 2.0 or you could uninstall PCPE 2.0 and then install PCPE 3.0.2. PCPE 3.0.2 should install on your system since it should have .NET 2.0 available unless you have intentionally uninstalled it.
NOTE: Installing PCPE 3.0.2 may not resolve the reporting issue. PCPE only displays what the UPS is reporting to it.

Bill,
The actual original old battery is a HR 1234W F2. I was told by replaceupsbattery.com that I, indeed, ordered the correct batteries. They say to measure the voltage from each battery. It should be 12.6 volts and if it is 12.4 volts, then it is bad. To eliminate this possibility, I will have to once again remove the batteries, untape them, disconnect them from each other and measure the voltage individually. As I said before, the PowerChute software reports that the batteries are 100% charged. Would that be an accurate basis to go on?
Thank you,
Ivan
