Hi
I have a (save of Technical Data)
Model: Back-UPS 500
Serial number: BB0319005669
Firmware revision: 6.4.I
USB firmware revision: c1
CPU: Intel Pentium
RAM: 736 MB
Free disk space: 43,615 MB
Software version: PowerChute Personal Edition 2.0
Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP (5.1.2600)
I changed the battery last November and clicked "I have just replaced my battery" when asked but the battery date (7/05/2003) remains the same.
I have even hacked the registry but nainserv.exe resets the date (original UPSBatteryManufacture 11943 and set it to 14900---"Technical Data" shows the new date but starting and stoppong the APC Service resets it)
So two questions:
1) How do I set the date so I don't need to keep a post-it stuck to the UPS (!) ?
2) Why don't I have all the sexy test and battery icons like everybody else? (function of UPS model I guess)
Thanks,
and yes this just keeps an old box going (and I did get the UPS for free...)

Hi Bugger,
I have the same issue, since my Back-UPS CS 350 is a bit on the old side. See my technical data from PowerChute Personal Edition 2
Model: Back-UPS 350
Serial number: AB0320242395
Firmware revision: 5.4.D
USB firmware revision: c1
CPU: Intel Pentium
RAM: 1,023 MB
Free disk space: 2,711 MB
Software version: PowerChute Personal Edition 2.0
Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP (5.1.2600)
I've attached a screen shot to show that you're not alone. The firmware on our UPSs, as Winna previously stated, is not able to supply all the additional detail to support all features of PowerChute Personal Edition.
Also want to note that upon installation of PowerChute Personal Edition today, the software asked when I last replaced my battery. I was able to say that I just replaced it today, since it was replaced late last year. It would seem that this is the only way to adjust the battery install date: uninstall / reinstall.

Many of the older Back-UPS models were either not compatible with PowerChute Personal at all or (as in your case) the firmware of the UPS did not support some functions within the software. Self test, last battery replacement date change, and certain performance monitoring features are among the items that will be missing if you have one of these older Back-UPS units. Unfortunately you may just need to manually record the date the battery was changed, as it sounds like you have tried all the supported, and unsupported (registry) methods we would suggest for changing the date via PCPE.

here is what I know in regards to what you SHOULD have - i wasnt sure if you were clicking on the icon mentioned in the screenshots.
If you have a Back UPS ES model that displays a Run Self Test option (or virtually any other Back UPS) under Performance in PCPE, there will be a battery icon there you can click on to update the date. see screenshot entitled PCPE replace batt date ES RST
If you have a Back UPS ES model that does NOT have a Run Self test option under the Performance section, see my screen shot. the option will be listed under the Configuration->Options section. again, see my screenshot entitled PCPE batt replace date ES model

If PS Personal is not the best software solution. What would you suggest? (I'm not tied to any particular piece of software...)
Cheers

yes i did. i forwarded it to another member on the forum who has the same UPS. i wanted him to confirm that this was all that he saw in his PCPE interface as well and once he did, he was going to post back. because of the unit's firmware, i think this is why you are only seeing certain things. he should be posting in another day or so.
