Bad review on Amazon.com 1500 LCD: "Fixed 2 Min. Shutdown 'Major Flaw'
The person whom wrote the bad review was complaining that the APC system remote shutdown is fixed at 2 min, and it takes longer then that to hibernate and claimed it was a major flaw. Perhaps he is a newbie to computers and computer management systems, if you have read this thread or have run into this problem and think it's a problem here are some options to explore:
1. Use s1 or s3 power-saving modes. and C1E if available. Set to Resume on Memory.
2. Write a PowerShell or other type of scrip or program to monitor the status of the UPS.
3. If power shuts down, invoke the script and put your computer(s) to sleep. This will reduce the load to about 20 to 50 watts per computer, giving you about 1 to 3 hours to get to the computer and start the hibernation processes.
4. Even if running at full load you power back up all computers for some reason, you will still have around 10 min. depending on weather you were on your lunch break and decided to finish lunch first. Start the hibernation for each computer.
A good alternative would be to have a nice phone that supports LogMeIn; supposing the network is up, and remotely hibernate your systems from your phone, or change the script to automatically hibernate instead of sleep, if you have more then 1, daisy chain them: put all but one to sleep, and before it hybernates wake the next one in the chain.
