Backup RS 1200 spontaneously shutting down my Mac, why?

I have had this Backup RS 1200 for three or four years. The "Replace Battery" light has never illuminated. Recently, the UPS has taken to killing power to my Mac (PowerMacG5) -- twice, a week apart, shutting it down, accompanied by an error beep from the UPS. The UPS itself has shown no other symptoms that anything is wrong.

My first guess is a failing battery -- accompanied by a useless "Replace Battery" sensor.

Anyone have any experience with this? Is it just the battery? Is it not the battery but some other problem with the UPS?

Thanks

Hi Mike,

Just wanted to be sure about this. You have mentioned that when you pulled the plug, the UPS beeped. What happens after that? Did all the lights went off or did you see any LED lit up and is the UPS beeping 4 times every 30 seconds?

That's a good question. Where might that info plate located? I have it sitting vertically under my desk. There is no Model or s/n info on the back, front or sides.

Ah, there is is, on the bottom, a tag with bar codes:

Pulling the plug killed power to my Mac. The UPS beeped, as it does when the house loses AC.

So, no Replace Battery light but no UPS protection.
