BackUPS Personal Edition shutdown peculiarities with Windows Server 2012 R2 essentials

I inherited a Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials system and a new BackUPS 1000. I downloaded the latest version of Powerchute Personal Edition for it and

1) It seems when wall power dies the system goes into hibernation instead of shutting down. When I wake it upthe UPS will shut down the software shuts the  server  down  - a dirty shutdown. I can't seem to find settings to have it just shutdown gracefully as soon as the power goes off.

2) I see no ability to send an alert when it goes on battery to other PC's on the network or off-site.

Insight into this is appreciated in advance.

Hi,

First, the original power is concerning a Back-UPS not Smart up so you should have started a new post.

Second, depending on the model Smart-UPS it is possible to not have the UPS shut down. What model Smart-UPS do you have?

Hi,

1- you can turn off hibernation so the system will shut down. Launch command prompt as an administration, type powercfg.exe /hibernate off. When PowerChute Personal Edition is installed it enables Hibernation.

2- PowerChute send a signal to the UPS to power down after the OS has powered down. If you restart the system prior to the UPS being powered down AC will be cut and the computer will crash.

3- PowerChute Personal Edition is not designed to send alerts. If you need this feature you should purchase a Smart-UPS (I recommend a SMT1000) and install PowerChute Business Edition which has been tested and approved for Windows 2012 R2. PowerChute Business Edition will send an e-mail based on events. Another option is to purchase a Smart-UPS along with a Network Management Card and you can then interface with the UPS via the card. The card also offers e-mail notification.

Is there anyway to stop item#2?  In other words, is there anyway to stop the Smart UPS from Powering Off itself after the computer OS has shutdown? I have a special requirement for the UPS to stay on and return from Battery Power to Mains Power when power returns without the UPS shutting down.
