I got this ups a month or so ago. Twice (in the middle of the night) it has initiated a self test that fails and reports a bad battery. Causing my server, NAS box, and other equipment to go down. Load status is around 10%.
If I shut it down and turn it on, the power on battery test passes.
The software reports that a manual test failed (I never ran one). There is no other information as it is all lost when the UPS fails.
The software identifies the UPS as an XS 1500G.

about a week ago I was off of work and had a chance to call support. Although the lady I talked to seemed highly confused about everything APC did send me out a replacement unit. I hooked it up to the same equipment, it started up, and passed the POST. I waited for it to fully charge and did a manual self test and it passed.

Hi Robert,
The UPS will perform an automatic Online Selftest when the unit is first powered on. It will then perform an automatic self test every 14 days following. With no load powered on during the initial turn on, the UPS will invariably pass unless a truly damaged battery is detected. In your case, we may be dealing with a battery which is too weak to support your configuration during these automatic self tests.
You've indicated the unit was acquired 1-2 months ago, however it's not clear how old the unit actually is. Depending upon where the unit is purchased, it may have been in new stock for a period of time. The internal battery will generally be shipped from manufacturing at approx. 80% charge capacity and can stored without charge for up to one year without the need for recharge.
If you could respond with the unit's serial number and a comprehensive list of product plugged into the unit's battery outlets, we may have a better understanding of why the units is responding as it is.

yesterday morning at 4:30am it did the self test and failed (which woke me up). I then went to it, powered it off and back on (less than 5 minutes), and it passed the power on self test. I bought it February 20th of this year, and the date the software says the battery was installed is 9-6-2016 there was a printout on the unit that said the same thing I do not have it anymore.. serial number is 3B1636X08220. The unit has connected to it:
Dell Vostro 200 with LCD monitor
Qnap ts-231
Sonicwall TZ-200
the software shows only about 10 to maybe 13% load.it reports the unit is an XS 1500g.

Hi Robert,
Considering the young age of the unit and small load, it would lead me to believe the issue is battery related. I would recommend you contact Schneider Electric technical support for an in warranty replacement of your battery.

Robert,
Your PC Dell Vostro 200 has a PFC power supply. They don't always work with a Modified sinewave UPS.
Do you have the sensitivity set to High in the UPS software?

Let me see if I understand this?
My computer has a PFC power supply (had to look that up) that doesn't like the output of ups's, and this is causing my UPS to report the battery is bad?
I am not sure of the correlation here.
The previous UPS was a very old 1250 back-ups UPS that worked fine with this UPS but i replaced it because the batteries were a pain to replace. it also had a modified sine wave.

I just pulled the batteries out and put them in another 24v ups, then did a self test and they passed.

Did you have a good load on the UPS at the time? Self test relies on switching to battery and observing their behaviour. If theres little or no load an almost dead battery can quiet comfortably pass a self test.
