Hi,
I have a Back-UPS 600. I replaced the battery less than 6 months ago.
This morning, I woke up to the unit emitting a solid beep with the power light off. When I reset the alarm (holding down the button to shut off the unit, then repowering), it returned to the same alarm state. I checked the outlet (it works). I moved the UPC to another powered outlet. Even after leaving it to charge for 30 minutes, it returns to an alarm state when powered on.
I suspect this is a power overload problem, but there is nothing currently plugged into the UPC. Is there any way to reset the unit?
Thanks,
Dan

Appreciate the follow up and added information and would agree the unit is broken and needs to be replaced.
I suggest you wait until Black Friday for a sale to ease the pain of buying a new system.

If the system isn’t connected to a computer running APC Power Chute Software do so now and wait for the system to declare the active fault / error.
Screen capture the tabs that show the following information: Input / Output Voltage, Power, Battery Voltage.
Than export the following logs from (PCSS / PCPE) event, data, ups, diagnostics and upload the same here for review.
Brain Dead: Once the above has been done complete the brain dead procedure and report back the results:

Hi,
I have already tried the “Braindead” procedure, with no improvement.
I am using a Mac so running Power Chute is not as easy (will bring home my work computer to do this,
but it may take a few days.).
In any case, a full reset (Braindead) didn’t solve my problem.

Hi, Dpfels,
By serial number, if the UPS is old or discontinued, it is better to recommend a new UPS, example: AS07XX (2007)
Here are some recommendations or tests to perform, in the following FAQ file.

Hi,
The even log is attached. As you can see, it indicates an overload status, which is solved by turning the unit off.
Regarding the unit status, it shows the battery, (APC branded, purchased in April 2025) as 100% charged. Details copied below.
Finally, the unit itself was purchased in 2020. It is a BE600M1, so hardly out of date (still offered for sale on Amazon as of today.)
One final thing: I also tried running the Brain Dead protocol (battery out, unplugged, no load, holding down the power button for >5 seconds), but leaving it unplugged with no load and no battery for about 10 hours to ensure that any memory/storage was completely erased. This also made no difference.
I am coming to the conclusion (wait for it) that my unit is fried. I assume that there are some components inside that can fail (surge suppressors, for instance)? Is there any other way to reset the unit or confirm that it is truly dead? At 5 years of age, I don't think I qualify for warrantee service (although I am annoyed that I just purchased a new battery.) If it is beyond repair, I will move on to purchasing a new UPS.
Thanks,
Dan
