Back UPS XS 1500 w/ Battery Disconnect error

I have a two year old Back-UPS XS 1500 unit that has functioned flawlessly until today. Out of the blue it suddenly thinks that the battery is disconnected (flashing empty battery indicator on LCD and Battery Disconnect message in the PowerChute software). Connected to it are two computers and three monitors. One of the computers is on 24/7 and the other is run on average 8 hours per day, and when both are running the draw is slightly over 50% of maximum supported load.

At the moment that the UPS began to report the error all the equipment connected to it momentarily lost power. No other equipment in the room, not connected to the unit, lost power (much of it on other UPS's) so i know there was no loss of main power at the time. I've checked the battery leads and they were both (still) connected to the UPS. i have also tried "brain deading" the unit; I unplugged the unit, disconnected the battery and hold the ON/OFF button for 10 seconds as well as removeing the battery for 5+ minutes then reconnecting it and powering on. Neither of these tests helped.

I do not know if this is related or not, however, the UPS began to report the battery as disconnected shortly after i had located and reconnected the data cable to the 24/7 computer. I am using Windows 7 64-bit and at the time i had not had PowerChute installed yet. The data cable had not been connected for over a year prior.

Any suggestions are welcome, hopefully with a quick resolution.

after using my APC UPS for a few years, finally plugged in the Comms Cable and installed PowerChute on a Win10 PC - bleeping started shortly afterwards - battery disconnected - then stops.

Only to return about every 20 minutes or so.

disconnected the data cable and the warning stops.

Think some sort of issue with the Comms and USB3 maybe ?

UPS has been running fine last 3 days.

thank you for your quick reply. I performed the load test as you described and it everything connected to the UPS immediately lost power. I will take your suggestion and engage APC support for replacement.

I had the exact same thing happen to me today. I upgraded to Powerchute Personal 3.0 and ran a battery test using the new software and then all of a sudden, same issue as you had.

I disconnected the UPS, disconnected the battery and then reconnected everything. Still same issue even with no load.

Is there anything I can do in the interim before contacting APC?

Kevin

Unfortunately the same day the unit totally died and shut off.

So I had no choice but to run out to buy a replacement BX1500G.

This is first time an APC totally died on me.
