Back-UPS XS 1500 screams like a dying parrot on occasion

I have had this unit for a little over a year and this "screaming" just started yesterday...it is not a "normal" on/low battery tone from the UPS...the current load is at 20%(180w), input volts is 121 and there is no system wiring fault...battery shows 100% charge and a time remaining of 27 mins...self test works just fine. Power source is good in this area as I have had only 1 offline event I have had in 24 weeks. I have tried turning off all the audible notifications in PowerChute to no avail...I have set an external (30CFM) fan near the rear to "assist" the built in fans just in case there was an overheating problem...didn't seem to help.

This sound is not constant nor is the pitch...it will be silent for several minutes the sometime scream like a dying parrot (changing pitch and volume) for a less than a second and sometimes it will go for about 5 seconds...

I can give that a try...but I would think if it was a faulty speaker during an alert (which is what it sounds like)...but there has not been an "event" since 12/26/2008 reported in PowerChute...I have sounds disabled and maximum sensitivity set...

are all the LEDs normal on the front of the UPS when this happens? if so, I'd have to guest a faulty audible speaker on the UPS if everything else is working normally and the unit passes self tests, etc

Yes everything is normal on the panel...no visible indications of any voltage or temperature problems...

hmm yes. one thing you could try, which i dont think will help but is worth a shot, is a braindead to reset the UPS.

to do so:

1: Disconnect any attached load.
2: Unplug the UPS from the wall socket.
3: Disconnect the UPS' internal battery.
4: Push and hold the "On" button on the UPS for 5 seconds
5: Reconnect internal battery.
6: Plug UPS in to known good power source.
7: Turn UPS on.

if the issue still persists, i'd have to guess its something we cant fix unfortunately, like a faulty audible speaker as i mentioned before or something like that.

right, so some sounds cannot be disabled. but yeah thats all i got.
