Hi All, I have had this UPS for quite a while, recently I've had a few situations arrive where I've needed to have this UPS shut down my PC in the event of power loss for more than 5 minutes. I've always had UPS's that connected via usb, however upon further investigation I see that this UPS has a data port in the form of an RJ-45 jack, I do not have the usb -to-fj45 cable that came with the unit (lost in a move) but I went to my local fry's and purchased a universal usb cable that has an adapter the changes it to an usb to rj45 cable. when i plug this in it is not recognized by my computer. nor is there any indication on the UPS that there is a connection.
My question is:
Is there a specific way to connect the cable to this thing? some kind of procedure to getting this to be recognized by my PC? Do I have to get the cable that was with the UPS? Can it be connected to and managed if I plug it into my router via cat5e cable, and if so how do I set this up?
I'm using windows 7 ultimate x64, and my understanding is that the PowerChute Personal eddition 2.2 is compatible with my os, but it won't install unless the ups is detected and connected to the pc. Please help!
Thanks in advance!
