Hi
I have the Back Back-UPS RS 550GI for a couple of months now, and I'm running the latest PowerChute Personal Edition software verision 3.0. The software is running on a small home server which is powered up all the time.
A moment ago I heard the UPS switch and start buzzing, (I assume to battery) for a second or so then switch back online, the event indicator on the LCD display shows 3, up from 2 which it had remained on since the couple of tests I did by switching off the power to it to simulate a black-out. Wondering what caused the problem I had a look at PowerChute, but this shows nothing. There is a note on the Performance section saying "Power problems of a very short duration are not recorded here", but I was expecting something considering the unit logged an event. Current status page shows "Last transfer to battery" as the date I tested a couple of months ago.
It wasn't a self test I heard as that was yesterday, and the event counter has incremented to show something had happened, and the software is communicating fine with the UPS as can be seen by the fluctuating load and voltages.
There doesn't seem to be a way on the UPS LCD display to get any error codes for the event, not that I can see in the manual anyway.
So why wouldn't something be recorded by the software? (Windows Event log also has nothing.)
Regards
Phil

Hi
Yes I was thinking the same thing, a driver/software or hardware issue stopping short duration problems being reported.

Hi
Thank you for the reply.
Doesn't it seem a strange oversight not to report it to the software where you could see what type of event it was? We could get hundreds of short duration events indicating a power problem but have no idea about them without looking at the LCD display, even then it doesn't say what the problem is on the LCD display, so no idea if it is over or under voltage, electrical noise or blackouts.
I hope APC change this behaviour, you can never have too much information about these things.
Regards
Phil

i agree. i am not sure if it is a limitation of the communication or something like that to report to the software what happened.
