How does Powerchute react to UPS errors? Right now I have the software setup to shut the computer down after power loss. Over the weekend I got an battery short error F02 and the computer was off. When I booted Windows it acted like it was in hibernation.
I am trying to understand if Powerchute is set to hibernate the PC upon battery failure or if the PC would be expected to just cut power instantly?
Thanks

Hi,
PowerChute would not shutdown the OS due to the error unless the UPS has switched to battery and or sent an on-battery signal. If you look in the system event viewer under Application you should see entries for APC UPS Service. The entries should list why the system was shutdown.
As I mentioned earlier, when PCPE is installed hibernate is enabled. If you do not want the system to hibernate after PCPE has been installed open a command prompt as an administrator and enter powercfg.exe /hibernate off

Hi,
PowerChute Personal Edition by default hibernates the system. So, if the UPS goes on battery for x amount of time or when the UPS has x amount of battery life left PowerChute will hibernate to system. It does this so if there is any unsaved files and open windows when the system is restarted the files and windows are restored to the last state.

My question was about UPS errors, like battery malfunctions and shorts (F02 error). I am aware that the software can be configured for hibernation or shut down when there's a power loss, I have mine configured to shut the computer down (not hibernate) after 1 minute of a power failure.
This weekend, there was not a power failure, there was a UPS failure and I'm wondering if the software put the computer into hibernation because it detected the UPS error?
Thanks!
edit: I should mention, I previously turned hibernation to "never" under Windows 7 power management, which is why I was confused to see the computer booting to a hibernated state this morning.
