Greetings. I use Back-UPS ES 700 and recently it started to shut off randomly, producing constant non-stopping noise at the same. Green light doesn't flash and when i press "Power On" button - noise stops. Then i press button again and UPS switches on normally. It happened twice already (couple of weeks between incidents). My PC (monitor and system block) is plugged to "battery back up and surge protection" outlets, while my conditioner is plugged to surge protection only and only my pc actually switches off, while conditioner keeps working.
I have read that this might be the warning sound, telling me to replace the battery (been couple of years since i bought it), however - green light on the UPS doesn't blink and i thought that it should. Does that suggest, that this might be some other issue?
Related question - if this is actually a sign to replace battery, does it really matter whether i use equivalent battery instead of OEM one?

Hi there,
May I know the exact model number of the unit? What kind of conditioner is connected on this unit. Have you had any power problem when the noise first heard from the unit?
If a customer wishes to replace the battery, it's still best to use the appropriate battery cartridge that APC recommends.

Zeiss,
Let me help you with your problem with the APC UPS unit. Would it be possible for you to post the exact model number of the UPS? Listed below are the troubleshooting steps that I hope you could do to diagnose the problem.
* On the said occassion wherein the UPS produced the constant tone, did the system block and monitor turned off? How about the load that are attached on the Surge only side?
* Have you ever noticed that the circuit breaker near the input plug of the unit was popped out while the UPS was on that state?
* With the UPS attached to the wall outlet/ power source and the regular load are connected to the unit I would like you to unplug the UPS from the power source and let me know what will happen.
* Is the UPS making any type of noise?
* The LED next to the power switch, was it blinking or solid? If it is, what color was the LED?
* Make sure as well that the battery is properly attached to the unit. Check if there's any noticeable damage to the battery, see if there is any crack or acid coming out from the battery.
bq.
I would let you know the next steps once I received a reply from you based on the status of the LED. Regarding the battery, as much as possible we would like our customers to use APC Genuine Batteries. These batteries has been tested and passed our quality control and has been designed with the unit. Using non-APC batteries might give you a lower runtime and shorter life expectancy than our batteries can provide.

Based from your description, the batteries would need replacement. The normal life expectancy of our batteries is 3~6 years. I would also suggest to call the APC Support Team for your region to check the warranty.

Here in North America, most of our Back-UPS carries 3 year warranty on it. You might want to give them a call and see if they have a Trade-UPS program.

If you guys still have this issue, I wrote a small blog post on how I fixed mine:

it's marked as solved, so what was the solution? I have the same problem with BX1400, it switches off and starts to beep constantly, without any mainline issues (other UPSes around do not even click or beep shortly). Batteries are new. Only one PC and monitor is connected
