Back-UPS BX1400U-MS for Corsair AX1500i Active PFC Power Supply

Hello guys, I want to purchase a APC Back-UPS BX1400U-MS to keep my computer safely when the event of power failure occur. My PC use Corsair AX1500i power supply, which is an Active PFC PSU. I read lots of articles on internet that complain about UPS that output stepped sine wave (or simulated) will not function property with Active PFC PSU, recommendation is buy a true sine wave UPS. So should I go with the Back-UPS?

Thanks.

Hi Thong,

You Corsair AX1500i is rated at 1500W and by following this KBase: http://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA158939/ it may have a inrush draw of 1875W. This is way beyond the capacity of the BX1400U-MS which is 700W. You may opt, at a minimum, for a Smart UPS model like an SMT2200I that have a capacity of 1980W. In addition, APFC PSUs like pure sine wave output UPS/s which a Smart...

Hope this helps.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for response. Can you confirm that the inrush draw only apply with simulated sine wave or both UPS type? Because I don't want to pay more for larger UPS if it is not necessary. Can I go with SMC/SMT 1000/1500VA?

Hi Thong,

The inrush draw applies to any UPS unit even not APC. From what I have mentioned previously, the least you can get is the SMT2200I because the SMT1000I and SMT1500I are respectively 700W and 1000W capacity only/ This is beyond your PSU's 1500W rating.
