Hi all,
I bought this unit a few years ago. About a year or so back it stopped working. Now, when you turn it on, during it's power on self test it decides it's being overloaded and beeps until turned off.
I wouldn't have posted, but there are a number of similar reports on the Amazon.com review of the UPS. Is it a known issue? Is there a fix?
It was a great UPS until this happened.
Thx,
Jared

yes i do work for APC 🙂 that is the serial number i needed that you provided. it indicates the unit was made in 2003 so unfortunately, it is out of warranty. if you are in need of a new UPS though, you could look into the [Trade UPS program or recycling it|http://www.apc.com/recycle/].
let me know if you need anything else.

is overload flashing or solid? this can be a failure mode but it is not a "known" or widespread issue. if it is under warranty, APC will gladly provide a warranty replacement. you could also try to braindead the UPS..
to do so - remove all attached load to the UPS. turn the UPS off and unplug it from the wall. remove the battery from the unit and hold down the power button for 10 seconds. reconnect the battery and turn the unit back on to observe the behavior.
if that does not fix it, it'd probably need to be replaced.

The red light is flashing.
I'd not heard of "braindeading" before... I tried that and it didn't change anything. 😞
As to it being a widespread issue... when the #1 useful review on Amazon is the same issue and 45 out of 45 people found it useful, I'm pretty sure it's more widespread than just me.

Thanks for the tip though. I wish it had worked.

i will let the product folks know. it is a known indication of a failure when this happens but i am not aware of a known issue where this is expected to happen. also, that review is from 2006 so i am sure that some things have changed since then platform wise if there was indeed a "known" issue that was apparent.
what are the first few digits of your serial number - such as JB0542?
