BX1500 cycles rapidly between on line and on battery

This was originally posted on APC forums on 8/28/2012

Hi. My BX1500 UPS started cycling between on line and on battery. It switches back and forth rapidly -- maybe once per second or thereabouts. Neither the overload nor replace battery lights are lit. The UPS continues cycling even if I disconnect all loads. If I leave it plugged in and turn it off, it does not cycle.

If the unit is plugged in and turned on, and I unplug the AC power cord, the unit stops cycling and switches to on battery and stays there steady until I plug the AC cord back in, and then the unit goes back to the rapid cycling.

Any ideas what might cause the cycling? I searched this forum and google searched, but can't find anything other than one speculation that the battery might be bad. Could it be the battery even though the replace battery light is not on?

Thanks.

It may be doing this due to dirty power or low/high input voltage. Which Bx1500 do you have? You can try to change the sensitivity to see if this helps and we can check the voltage to see if it's a voltage issue. Depending on the model you have, the procedure for getting this info will be different. It will show a model # on a white sticker on the unit. It will likely be bx1500 or bx1500g. I have listed links to the manuals for each unit below. They show the procedure for changing the sensitivity for each.
