*I live in a new subdivision that experiences at least two outages, and as many brownouts, in a week. I am an admitted newbie to the battery backup issue and only have experience with surge protectors. I went to my local Best Buy and purchased the biggest APC unit they had, the BX1300LCD.
My question is...My whole entertainment system (60" HDTV, Sony surround in a box, DirecTV receiver, Tivo receiver and XBOX 360 elite are all plugged into the back of a Monster HTS 1600 for surge protection. Can I plug the power cord from the HTS 1600 into the APC UPS, and then plug the APC into the wall? I assumed this would be alright as long as I did not exceed the load rating on the APCunit which I can monitor via the LCD.
Spoke with APC tech support and he didn't advise it. Said to plug all individual components into the APC and scrap my Monster HTS 1600 that I paid almost $300.00 for and is working fine. I don't know if that was the marketing side of him talking or not.
Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with using a computer UPS on a home entertainment center? Thanks in advance for any and all responses that will help me make up my mind IRT this matter...You may reply on the forum or email me if you desire at [barryl41@rapidwave.net]

Plugging a surge protector into a UPS is not advised for an ideal solution. You introduce a secondary point of failure in your setup, and if there were any damage due to any type of surge/spike, the Equipment Protection Policy on your UPS would be void.
