Hello
I recently purchased a PRO BR900G-GR UPS and it's making a ticking sound every 5 seconds, almost like a clock.
It's not a clicking sound like when the UPS switches from AC to battery,
and I never heard it from my ES BE700G-GR or CS BK650EI.
I tried all sensivity settings, and it doesn't matter if it loads 0-500W, its still present as soon as the UPS is connected to the wall socket.
Is this sound normal or should I return it?
I uploaded a clip to Dropbox. Sound quality with my phone is not that good, so you need to listen to it with some headphones.
Sound is present at 0:00, 0:05, 0:10
thanks

I listened with my desktop amp at full volume but could not hear any ticks. I am curious as to what is powered by the UPS ? IE that is making the load wattage reading jump all over the place ?

It's a Panasonic Plasma
And the UPS ticks even if nothing is connected to the wall or master outlet
Sorry about the quality. I borrowed a better microphone
new clip

Heard it clearly with the new clip...it almost sounds like some very brief power processing/switching activity within the UPS going on. It does not sound like relays clicking but more like an inverter/transformer function combination. One thing I'd be concerned about is having your expensive plasma TV on what is basically an relatively inexpensive desktop class UPS. Plasma TV power supplies are very complex finely tuned beasts and I would worry A: about what the step-approximated sine wave out of the UPS is doing to the power supply in the plasma TV when the UPS is on battery, and B. the 540 watt rating of the UPS does not give it much headroom / capacity for a power hungry plasma TV that instantaneously (eg during power on, or dramatic brightness level changes) could be drawing more power than the display on your UPS is hinting at. I used to have a 50" Pioneer about 10 years old that was drawing almost 600 watts on peaks.

thanks for the answer.
Yes I will remove it later, used it for testing in that room, because I cant stand to hear that clicking when im working.
So do you think I should return the UPS?
If it's common on that model, I rather get the more expensive smart-modell.

Hello. Checked with a few people here to see if we could identify the sound. Sometimes we can tell if it is a buzzing from a transformer for example. On this one, we aren't sure so we'd recommend a return/RMA if it is bothersome since it does not sound like an expected noise..

To me the noise wouldn't be much of a concern, I've heard similar from many other smaller APC ups over the years. Someone actually from APC would be best to comment about whether this warrants a call to tech support or not... but if you are able to return the UPS for full exchange/credit trade up to a higher capacity unit with cleaner on-battery output now it might be worth looking into for your plasma.

I haven't heard that noise before personally. The second clip was a lot better. I will see what some people here think and what we recommend as far as that noise goes.
