BR1500Gi turns itself off when returning to mains

I have a BR1500Gi that when i pull the mains will transfer to battery just fine, when the mains returns there is a delay before it switches back, BUT when it switches back to mains it turns off first.

Doesn't seem like a desired function for a UPS

When testing a Back-UPS you should not unplug the unit from the AC source. Doing so breaks not only the hot but ground and neutral as well. To test plug the Back-UPS into a power strip and using the power button on the strip turn the power off. To restore power turn the strip back on. Doing this should only break the hot connection and not the ground and neutral. When power is restored in this fashion the UPS should not shutdown and restart when switching from battery to street power.

This was initially noticed when someone tripped a breaker in the office during a power test, subsequent to this ive just tested by switching the mains off by the switch on the plug socket and the same behaviour was witnessed, it transferred to battery when switched off then when the mains supply was switched back on there was a delay then the unit turned itself off and back on again and returned to mains power.

This is what should take place.

The UPS senses the power outage, switch to battery output, informs PowerChute of the event. PowerChute waits the configured amount of time and then instructs the OS to shutdown. Once the shutdown command has been sent to the OS a Kill Power command is sent to the UPS. When the Kill Power command is received the UPS waits 2 minutes and then goes into sleep mode cutting output to the outlets. The UPS will remain in sleep mode for approximately 9 minutes and if AC is not restored in that time will power down completely. When AC is restored while in sleep mode or off the UPS will wake and restore AC to the outlets.

If AC is restored prior to the UPS completing the 2 minute delay the UPS will continue to provide battery power to the outlets until the time elapses. Once the delay is completed the UPS will kill power to the outlets, wait approximately 3 -4 seconds and then restore AC to the outlets.

In your test when AC is restored to the UPS has the computer completely powered down or is it still in the process of powering down and has the UPS entered sleep mode or still in the 2 minute delay?

This UPS isnt protecting PCs, it has a phone system and switch on, all other UPS we have do not wait or shutdown, but as the AC is restored they switch back over without powering off first.

Is this configurable to not kill power to the outlets ?

I apologize. My assumption was you had a computer plugged into the Back-UPS. Is anything attached to the Back-UPS data port?

No, the only items attached are the mains connections for the phone system and the network switch ( and of course the power in cord for AC)

when you have time test the UPS again but instead of having the phone system and network switch plugged into the UPS just have a lamp. It would be helpful to know if the UPS reacts differently based on the load.

If the lamp drops when AC is restored you should contact local support. the unit should not drop when AC is restored and if under warranty should be replaced.
