BR1500G transient fault?

Just been starting to use this new BackUPS-Pro BR-1500G unit (I believe it was manufacture Sep 2010)
Everything was going OK until... this morning I noticed the internet was down (I had been using it via my iPad for a while, but can't be sure how long it had been until I noticed it went down) and low and behold I found the UPS had shut down (completely powered off).

Didn't seem to be able to power it back on - unplugged, reseated battery - noticed a (*very*) brief/transient F06 msg. Repeated unplugging, reseating battery. Saw an F05.

After a couple more unplug/reseat cycles, it has been powering up OK. Battery was reported totally flat/empty, although it is charging OK now.

Should I be returning this unit, or could it have just been a transient hiccup due to a poorly seated battery or something??
What would/could have caused the battery to completely drain - it was plugged into the mains the whole time.

Is there some sort of diagnostic procedure I should try on it to gain any confidence or find out what might have happened?

Thanks in advance,
m

Hi magic,

I would like to know if this is a brand new unit or out of the box? What devices have you connected to use UPS before the problem happen-please include the total Watts and VA rating(if possible) of the devices that you have attached to it?

As an additional troubleshooting, you may also do a [braindead procedure|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9603/kw/brained%20backups]. If F code persist, you may call our technical support hotline at 800-800-4272.

Hi guys.

FYI I successfully RMA'd the unit directly through APC - great service, no problems - couriered me a new unit right away.
As to your earlier question, I have my main Windows desktop PC and monitor hooked into the UPS, and router - total power draw is ~174W - well within the limits of this UPS unit (865W) - it gives me about 32 minutes of backup time.

Fingers crossed this unit lasts more than a few days!!

Noticed some differences already.

#1 - the firmware load is different - old one was 865.L0a.D, new one is 865.L2.D
#2 - maybe because of #1, or maybe because of the fault with the previous unit's charging system - the fan doesn't instantly come on as soon as you plug it in or after you recover power after a power-loss event. This is good news!!!

Is the firmware on these units customer-upgradeable? What happens if new improvements are made in the firmware - how is the customer informed??

Thanks!

per the user's guide, it indicates a charge fault. this could have been an issue with the battery or charger itself. i'd keep an eye on it then if it comes back, contact APC support, per the users guide: http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/EALN-7V5MXA_R1_EN.pdf
