BR1500G From the top

This was originally posted on APC forums on 6/15/2011

I just bought mine and so far I am not impressed. The first one shipped to me was damaged in shipment and it was replaced quickly, and that's the only good thing I've noticed so far. The so called manual is for both the 1300 and the 1500 but the images of the unit must be of the 1300 because they do not match this 1500 unit. The illustration on connecting the batteries is a different kind of door and does not show how to open it to get at the battery. That is my first question. Also, there was no cable nor PowerChute Software disk in the package. I'm thinking APC is not delivering what their manual claims is in the shipping package, and the manual is not professional, and with all the problems raised in this forum, maybe I picked the wrong brand name.

Thanks Juangele, I left the computer off for an hour and it is now fully charged. That solves my problem completely. I'll check the PM's and see what you have on the cable and the download of the software.

Hi Leon,

Sorry for any inconvenience.

May I request for the RMA number that was given to you (in private message)? We'll send you an interface cable and you may download [PowerChute Personal Edition Software|http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BR1500G&tab=Software] anytime you want to install it and depending on the Operating System you are using.

In addition, you may use this link to help you properly install the battery on this kind of UPS.

I hope this helps.

Hey! Thanks for that quick response. Apparently the battery has to charge up. The outline is blinking and it's chirping every 2 seconds. The plug and the audio symbols are lit but not a battery symbol. Is this what it's supposed to be doing?

OK, I have also set the power saving function and the threshold level. How long does it take to charge the batteries? Oooops...I think I was looking at this wrong. I assumed a white fill indicates a charged section. It was all black with a white outline. Now it has started running the fan for a few seconds and lighting the first section, then going off (fan and white indicater) then it starts up again for a few seconds.

The manual shows the charge indicator as white filled when it low. Which is which? OK, my questions are being answered by my unit. LOL. Now I have two of the sections in white so it must be charging. This fan running when it's charging is new to me. My last UPS, a much smaller and less sophisticated model didn't have a fan. I'm moving up in the world.

Hi Leon,

Please let it sit for 8-24hrs to charge.

The battery icon from the LCD will be filled which is an indication that it is fully charged.

From the upper right handside of the LCD, there are 2 icons. One is the Load icon and the other one is the battery icon. When adjusting the sensitivity, you will see the load icon. For full time display, it should be the battery icon.

The UPS has fan in it that turn on when UPS is charging, when UPS is providing battery power and when it is powering load which is greater than 80% of the UPS capacity. This is to nuetralize the temperature of the components inside the unit.
