I have an older Back-UPS Pro 1400 and I want to communicate with it via serial to an XP box. I am having a difficult time loading any APC software that will talk to this UPS. So far I have tried:
* PowerChutePersonalEdition
* PowerChuteBusinessEdition
Do I need to go outside of APC to get this working?
Any/all help appreciated - Thanks!

Duncan-
The BP1100 UPS is compatible with # 940-0020C (or 940-0095A) Serial cable. The Current Power Chute Business Edition software is used to monitor the UPS status according to the below K-base document.

The 940-0020(C) cable is available to purchase from APC online store. This cable is wired specifically to the pinouts of the UPS’ serial port. Do not use a different cable. Doing so can result in the UPS turning off or rebooting.

If you want to use an APC solution (not Windows native or APCUPSD), for a BP1400 using Windows XP you will need to use the PowerChute Business Edition software, with the 940-0020C cable or the 940-0095A cable. This will require that you select "Basic Signaling with any APC UPS" when installing PCBE.
What prevented you from getting PCBE working, specifically?

Erasmus,
Might this suggestion also apply to "old" BP1100 units?
I own 4, and they are all on their 3d battery replacements.
BIG, Heavy suckers!!! But, they are still with me since 1997.
Believe I bought them as Refurb units......... 🙂
I can to the research about the proper re-232? cables........
Thank you for this share!
