BP1100 indicates it is on battery back up when it is running on line power.

I have a BP1100 (Back-UPS Pro 1100) that indicates that it is running on battery power in the software Power Chute Business Edition v8.01 as well as the Windows XP Power Options Properties UPS Tab (I tried both). The UPS is actually running on utility line power. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what may cause this? The BP1100 functions correctly on power up when it goes through the self test. The battery check out goods well.

Thanks in advance,

-Steve

Hi Steve,

What lights are on the front of the UPS when the software shows that the unit is working on battery? Do you see the Online light lit in the front of the UPS? Did you refresh the Power Chute software? Are you using the serial cable that came with the UPS or using a standard serial to serial cable?

The AC line power LED on the front of the unit is green when the software is indicating that the UPS is on battery power. (This LED is next to the AC power symbol.) Both the Windows XP UPS software (that is part of the O/S and designed by APC) and the APC Powerchute Business Edition (version 8.01 downloaded from APC) indicate that the UPS is on battery power when it is actually on AC power. I tried loading the PBE v8.01 software twice and it indicated the UPS was on battery power both times as did the Windows XP UPS status indicator. The UPS is connected to my computer with the serial cable that was supplied with the UPS by APC.

Hi Steve,

I presume that you are using the 940-0020 serial cable. It is a simple signaling UPS. If you are using the simple signaling cable, then you need to specify the COM port manually and the UPS type as "Simple Signaling to any UPS' while installing the PCBE software. If you did not do these things, I request you to reinstall the software and specify the Com port and the UPS type manually.

As I mentioned before I am using the cable that came with the BP1100 UPS. I also set the COM port manually as it does not auto detect the UPS and I used the "simple signaling to any UPS" option while installing the PCBE software. This was done twice with same results. The UPS software indicates it is running on battery power when the UPS is on AC line power. I have uninstalled the software twice as well since it is not functioning properly. As I also mentioned before the Windows XP interface under Settings->Control Panel->Power Options->UPS tab shows the "current power source" to be battery when "Basic signaling to APC UPS" is selected as well. This has the effect of causing the computer to shutdown unless it is disabled. I am looking for a solution to this problem.

Thanks,

-Steve
