BK650MI RS323 to USB ?

Hi all,

I've just been given a BK650MI with a fresh battery along with a 940-0024C smart signalling cable which is great, although for this to work on my system I need it to be USB, not RS323 😞

Is it possible to use a RS323 to USB converter and get either the built in Windows software or PowerChute to initiate a soft shut down after the battery power gets down to 40% during a power failure?

If so, is there any particular RS323 to USB brand/model adaptor that works better?

Thanks

Ah yes, RS-232 I meant lol.

That's correct, this model is only serial and I would like to convert it to USB.

I'm not sure if this cable I got with it was the original (out of box cable) but I noticed that if you got to the product page of the BK650MI it lists the 940-0024 cable as an optional interface cable

http://www.apc.com/template/size/apc/sizing_display_options.cfm?option_type=InterfaceCon&ups_sku=BK6...

So I'm hoping that this cable will work with the bk650mi ! Do I need to run a specific version of PowerChute with this cable?

And thanks for the suggestion on the USB converter, I'll do some hunting around and see if I can find one.

OS will be Windows Home Server which is Windows Server 2003 with add ons 🙂

This is where I might get stuck because I think the only version of PowerChute that supports WHS is version 2.2, I've just ordered a rs-232 to usb adaptor so it'll be interesting to see if PowerChute 2.2 can see the bk650mi via a rs-232 to usb adaptor with the 940-0024 cable !!!

There is a add-on for WHS (GridJunction) that can talk to APC ups' that interface via a usb cable, so it'd also be interesting to see if GridJunction can see the bk650mi with the adaptor...

Only time will tell I think.
