BACK UPS 500 RS 3 leds flashing and a double beep (chirp?) every 3 second

BACK UPS 500 RS power on led is solid green, the rest 3 leds are flashing and a double beep (chirp?) every 3 seconds.
I own it for almost 5 years and it is time for a battery replacement, but shouldn't it be that only the battery led should be on and not all 4 of them.
If the battery is dead does this mean the the charging circuitry can not charge the battery and this is why I get all 4 leds on and the beeps?
Just need to make sure that the battery is dead and not the UPS itself.

Thank you techie for the answer.
You think it is worth trying to service it or would it be better to buy another one. I have no idea about the service costs. So if ti really will cost me more or less the same as buying a new 500 I will go for a new one. Although I am worried about the reliability of this product line. I own another 1200 Back UPS and cross my fingers it will not die in 5 years as this did.

Please contact the regional Customer Care Center to know the service costs. APC Back UPS RS is a reliable product line. For your information, the Life expectancy all depends on the treatment the UPS is getting and the amount of discharge/recharge, the temperature it is kept in, etc.,

Secondly, I would purchase a new unit instead of repairing the old unit 🙂
