Last night, during an electrical storm, all three of my backups (Back-UPS RS 800) went into backup mode and stayed that way. As far as I can tell there was not interruption of power, though, because none of the clock radios in the house were blinking afterward and the backups are not all on the same circuit. I have since, tried unplugging them, deep cycling them, cutting off all breakers but one, etc. They still refuse to come online, as though they're not even plugged in. Any suggestions?

So last night I got home with a battery of tests in mind, and all three of them came on line as normal. Its a little unsettling that they didn't work from 3am to 8:30am yesterday morning, then suddenly worked. I never had the chance to diagnose exactly what was going on. I hope the problem is gone for good. Thanks for your help.

It's possible that there's still electrical noise on the lines. Have you tried adjusting the sensitivity on each of the UPS's to low? With excessive harmonic distortion, it's possible that the UPS will remain on battery until it sees a cleaner input.

I haven't tried using power chute yet. I'll try changing the sensitivity when i get home. I'm worried that doing that will work. Would I need to call an electrician if that is the problem? I'm guessing I wouldn't want to just run them at low sensitivity...

You can have them take a look at it, but from what I've experienced in the past, the level of harmonic distortion that's being passed through isn't high enough to be anywhere near damaging. The electric company may look at it and decide to do nothing about it, because it's within spec.
