I have a APC XS 1500 with an attached RS/XS battery pack. All of a sudden the " on battery " light lights up and it starts beeping. I have checked all the connections and even removed the battery pack but it continues to show this message. Any idea's ?

Initially the green on line button comes on flashing, shortly after that the on battery light comes on in a solid yellow and remains on followed by 4 beeps. With 4 beeps about every 30 seconds after that. Right now it is not connected to anything.

Is it solid or flashing? what other LEDs are on?
Depending on the status, this might just mean the UPS is on battery for one reason or another Do you have the USB cable connected to a computer running powerchute to verify the current status?

OK, so the UPS is on battery for some reason. Have you tried it in any different outlets or circuits at your location? If you are willing to connect the included USB cable that came with your UPS, we could see if powerchute can provide verification if the UPS sees input voltage or not or if its hows anything else as an issue.

I have tried it in multiple outlets/circuits with the same results. I dont see any USB ports, all I see is a data port that looks like a phone line would plug into it ?

Yes, it is labeled data port and is an RJ-45 type (like a network cable) and the other end is USB that goes to your computer.
You'll want PowerChute personal edition from this link-> Software / Firmware
