APC UPS Selector - Feedback Needed

I work for APC and own the content of the UPS Selector below. I am looking for feedback from anyone (customers, partners, APC employees) to help me further improve this tool. If you have never used it before, please take a look and let me know what you think. If you have used it, I would appreciate any feedback regarding the interface, recommendations provided, and/or content. I will be using this data to drive content and user ability changes within this tool.

I looked into the AV Selector. We currently do not include the battery backup products in that selector. We are aware of this issue and are working to fix it. Thank you for pointing that out. Also, thank you for letting me know about these processors. The processor list does not have too many selections and I am working to add more as I get feedback. Thank you again!

I have collected several other requests for the option to select multiple monitors. I did not consider the application you are describing here. I will make sure this is a priority when we revamp the selector. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

Well first I'd like to add my two cents to support getting UPS' on the entertainment configurator. Also, as we are in the thick of thunderstorm season I am anxious to move on this. How am I to choose the right UPS/Power conditioner for my entertainment system? I'm guessing there are many to choose from but as money is tight these days, I don't want to have to just buy the biggest one I can find nor do I want it undersized. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

TonyC2639, we are trying our best to work on the Entertainment Selector for everyone. We have hit some bumps in the road but it is on our priority list. My first recommendation is to determine what kind or protection you need. Do you need noise filtering, Surge protection only, Surge protection and battery back-up, power conditioning only, or power conditioning with battery back-up. If you need help determining what these features are, I recommend contacting our sales team at 800-890-4272 and they will help you understand these terms as well as recommending a device that best fits your needs.

Our AV specialized products are recommended for entertainment equipment. If you need surge protection and power conditioning only, please check out the H Type Power Conditioners. Power Conditioners with battery back-up can be found in the S Type and J Type Families. We do have additional products such as the C Type Power Filters, and Surge protection only devices.

You may want to add Mac Pros with options of up to six 24" display for financial institutions who are using Java based trading desks.

kira13 - APC does have an AV selector as part of our Home/Home Office Online Wizard. Please check it out using the link below and select the Entertainment system protection option.

I'd like to see a selector for AV devices, similar to the computer one. I tried to get a recommendation by plugging in the numbers to configure by load, but of course the AV UPS's weren't in the list of suggestions that came up. I'd also like the PC selector to have an option for if you have an active PFC power supply, since that seems to require a pure sine wave output instead of a stepped approximation. It might also help to have a field for video cards, since there's a reasonable power difference between computers with onboard video and computers with the latest and greatest 4-card SLI/Crossfire setups.

Maybe there should be a selector set targeted toward business customers, and a different set targeted toward consumers.

In this thread, you've directed us to a different product selector...

In the 2nd product selector, you are missing some of the latest Intel processors. For example, I am using an Intel Core 2 Quad in one of my computers.

Aha! That's very nice. I've never seen this page before; for whatever reason, whenever I've tried to navigate APC's site, I've always gotten to the other selector set instead. Not sure why.

I did notice that the selector only offers me one product, based on my input, which is the C10 (or C10BLK) power filter. Is there a way to indicate using this selector that I want battery backup (primarily for the DVR, but also so that I can gracefully shut down a game if I'm gaming when the power goes out)? The unit I actually bought, the S15BLK, is not available directly from APC, but it would be nice if the selector at least mentioned it as a possibility, or even one of the other models with a battery backup (I think it's the J series?).

Thanks for pointing me to this other selector page. Hopefully, my feedback about active PFC power supplies and power differences between computers with no video card, one powerful video card, and multiple powerful video cards is still valid for the selector you asked about.

Kira

I am currently looking into your question regarding the AV selector. You may not have noticed the selector previously because it is located on the Home/Home Office main page only. I will let you know however, what other selections we have available for the AV selector.

As far as the PFC and video card recommendation, I am certainly looking into this. You are one of many that have suggested this change so as I work on the selector tool I will be doing my best to incorporate your suggestions. Thanks!

I noticed that as well; I went quickly thru the PC selector as well as the A/V one. I have a now obsolete Socket 939 AMD Athlon 64 X2, and those aren't on there either. Not sure how different their power needs are from single-core Athlon 64's and Athlon FX's. I also noticed it was missing Sempron, which is what I believe is in my MediaSmart Windows Home Server. My comments about the "standard" selector, the one originally asked about, also apply to this one.

I discovered a feedback link on the alternate selector site, so I will repeat this feedback there.
