APC Smart UPS SMT2200I Issue
Hi everyone,
I am using an APC Smart-UPS SMT2200 (3000VA) with my computers. Occasionally, the UPS makes a thud-like sound and then shuts off completely. The UPS fails to shift the load to the batteries when this happens, and all the computers and all attached equipment also shut down momentarily before turning on again. At the same time, the room lights blink, indicating a brief power disturbance. In the UPS events log I can see "Disrupted Input" when this happened.
Has anyone experienced this before? What could be the cause, and how can it be fixed?

You’ll need to provide the following information and logs: Event, Data, UPS
Provide the serial number of the UPS and production date of the RBC and installation date of the same.
Based on the limited information you have provided this site experienced a power outage.
The UPS did not transfer to battery only power which on the surface indicates an expired RBC. You can affirm and test this now by simply removing AC Mains and report back the results.
If the system turns off immediately this points to the RBC as the first culprit. In more serious cases there’s an internal fault which in some instances the unit will declare a relay weld fault / error.
But, in reality by the time this hard fault is seen the problem was present long ago! You can test this out now with and without the RBC connected to the system.
Obviously if the RBC is bad / failed the results will not be as clear. Regardless, if we assume everything is working as expected when the system is first powered on you’ll hear several relays clicking.
Do you hear the relays clicking upon first start up? When you disconnect the RBC do you hear any relays / noise when doing so?
The SMT is hot swappable as such it should continue to operate while AC Mains is available and present!
If disconnecting the RBC causes the UPS to turn off you have an internal hardware fault.
After the above tests have been performed manually initiate the following tests and report back the results.
Self Test: Manually initiate this test and allow the RBC to return to 100% charge and report back the results.
Battery Calibration: Manually initiated a battery calibration and allow this procedure to complete. Insure there is at least 30% connected load on the outputs.
If the RBC is EOL / failed, weak, this procedure will halt and fail to complete. Keep in mind if this RBC is on its last leg this process will impact what little service life is left in the RBC!
NOTE: Before you do any of the tests outline above. Measure the DC voltage at the Anderson RBC connector while connected to the system and report back the value.
Next, disconnect the RBC connector and measure the initial charged voltage and record.
Leave the RBC disconnected for 72 hours and measure the DC voltage and report back the results and values. A healthy RBC once the surface charge has been removed / dissipated will lose 0.1 ~ 0.3 VDC.
If you see a drop from 1 ~ 3.XX VDC this affirms the RBC is marginal / EOL.
