Hi I've had my APC 800 for a couple years now but never bothered with the USB cable, until today when I was away and lost power long enough for the battery to run out and drop my computer. So I figured better get this setup properly. Anyway I plugged the cable into the data port and then into a usb port on my computer...but it's not detected it what so ever. It doesn't make the "ding" sound when a usb is plugged in, nor does it show anything in device manager either from APC or Unknown Device. When installing Powerchute a message comes up saying "unable to locate APC Battery backup connected to your computer". I've tried shutting down everything and powering off the unit to maybe reset it but that didn't work either. Any ideas?

have you tried multiple USB ports on your computer? also, there are a few RJ-45 style connectors on the back of the UPS. ensure you connected the RJ-45 end to the port labeled "data port" on the back of the UPS and the USB to your computer, as you mentioned you did. if you didnt reboot your computer yet, that might be a good idea.
what operating system are you using?
some of these points may also be a good idea to try -> http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2923
