I have an APC Pro 1500s UPS purchased in January 2023 that has just started to throw an Event 92. the display shows a blinking X next to an empty battery. Does that mean the battery needs to be replaced? Are batteries replaceable or do I need to buy a whole new unit? The unit is only 18 months old, it seems kind of soon to be replacing a battery?

The battery (service life) is rated for 3-5 years based on usage, temperature, and environmental conditions.
You can replace the battery yourself and is part number APC RBC163.
If your location has dirty power and also see lots of black outs the battery will degrade faster.
The unit is covered by a three year warranty so you may consider reaching out to APC Technical Support. They may send you a new battery if they confirm this is the root cause as it has a two year warranty. You’ll need the purchase receipt, serial number and error codes.
If you have APC Power Chute software installed it will tell you immediately if the battery needs to be replaced. 👍
Please confirm this is your specific model UPS:

I have the BR1500MS2. According to the Schneider Electric website, it's under warranty until Dec 2024. The alarm/event has happened three more times since I posted the original question. I'll try to get in touch with their customer support and file a warranty claim for a new battery.
