APC Backups/surge protector - oops

It's glory-me; in fact my hopes have once more been dashed because of the facts. To say that this is the last time money was spent and the results realized  turned-out bad. Bad, in that what presumably had been a means for my Inspiron 1525 to have files saved during blackouts.

A while ago during Winter here, there was an accident on the highway near me that caused electrical power to have been temporarily interrupted to the residence. As hoped the unit purchased by me for exactly this scenario became the only source of electricity. We came through it fine and after the power was restored; the power outage lasted more that 4 Hrs; anything possibly that could have suffered a fault didn't get any damage from the incident.

In short: my assumption was some sort of transfer of files would be back to my laptop had they been saved throughout the blackout. All my system was turned off at the time. The only source of telephone/internet was being provided by our telephone service and so the A/C successfully provided by APC ran the modem and laptop.

When purchasing the APC it was my belief: backup for my system would occur because an ethernet connects them both. Can someone tell me? Gooday

Hello Jon,

The Back-UPS unit will initiate a Graceful Unattended Shutdown of the operating system, if configured through PowerChute Personal Edition software and the appropriate Data Cable has been connected between the UPS and Computer. Any unsaved data which has been left on the Desktop will be lost once the computer is shutdown. The Back-UPS does not directly store any information and will simply initiate a shutdown command upon power loss.

I hope this answers your question.
