hi guys! Working on little project here...
Im trying to plug small tv and my xbox 360 into APC which will be connected to my car battery by 400W converter... So we can play some games while tailgating! I have APC XS1000. When I plug APC into converter(which is hooked to my car battery) Building Wiring Fault light comes on and APC remains on battery power rather than switching to on line mode. I tried to lower sensitivity and then it went online but AVR, See manual, and Building Wiring Fault light were on! Any ideas how i can get it to work?
P.S. tv and xbox combined about 250w... It works on APC battery for about 30 mins. Also if i plug xbox and tv straight to the converter it works fine so I know my car battery provides enough power for both. I just would like to have it plugged in to APC so i can see how many volts going in or out and other info that APC displays!
Thanks for all suggestions!

I understand that, keep in mind that I'm connecting it to the car battery not outlet in my house.

I understand that Emil. DC batteries only has a positive and a negative terminals, by using an inverter it provides you with an AC voltage. Have you checked the specifications of your inverter? Does it provide a step approximated sine wave or a pure sine wave? Does the inverter provides clean power/voltage/frequency that the UPS can handle? Our UPS checks the outlet where it is plugged in if there's Hot, Neutral and Ground wirings. From hot to neutral and hot to ground it is expecting to see ~120V AC while Neutral to Ground is ~0V AC.

Yeah it's 400w with sine wave. Is 400 not enought to power it up UPS? Is there a better way to ground it somehow?

What kind of sinewave does it provide on the output? What kind of UPS do you have? Our BX1000G series supports 600Watts, you need to determine how many watts does your load consumes. If your load pulls greater than or equal to 400W it would overload your inverter causing the UPS to go on battery.

I have ups xs1000... When I plug my xbox and tv straight to the converter it is able to pull both. But when I plug in ups all by itself with nothing plugged in to it, it stays on battery and never goes online... So I know converter is powerful enough to pull xbox and tv ( apprx 150 to 200 w).

What is the exact model number of your inverter? I have a feeling that might be producing a step sine wave.
