APC Back-UPS Pro 1500VA BR1500G - How can I shut down my home ESXi server?

Due to the hurricane here, I ran out and bough a APC Back-UPS Pro 1500VA UPS (BR1500G) for $180 as it was all that was in stock locally.

I was wondering if I can use it to:

- Shut down my ESXI server and VM's and my synology (maybe via a raspberry Pi or a VM that runs a shutdown script)

- Keep my cable modem, cisco router, wi-fi running

Or should I return it and get something else?

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed reply. We recommend our Smart-UPS line for use with VMware ESXi. With a Smart-UPS you can run PowerChute Business Edition on VMware vMA to control the shutdown or purchase a network card for the Smart-UPS and control the shutdown with PowerChute Network Shutdown. 

You may find information on controlling ESXi shutdown with a Back-UPS using apcupsd from their mail list group.
