Hello
I have a APC BE550G-AZ Power Saving Back-UPS ES 8 Outlet 550VA 230V - great little unit has served me well over the years. It has 2 PCs and 3 monitors attached to it.
Unfortunately, I can't say nice things about my local power company! We've had 4 blackouts in one month (faulty transformer now replaced in our neighbourhood). The APC unit worked fine for the first two blackouts and hibernated the computer fine. But the last two blackouts the unit has simply switched everything off and then started beeping..... which of course the PC does not like... I am using the Power Chute software and the unit is perhaps 5 years old.
Has something died in my little APC unit? Time to purchase a new one - or is there a way to troubleshoot / fix this?
FYI both of the lights are on in the front and it is supplying power fine (when the power is fine!)
I checked the troubleshooting guide and the nearest diagnoses I can find is this one:
"As a battery ages, the runtime capability decreases. Contact APC at the Web site to order replacement batteries."
Thank you

Your probably better of to replace the unit, give yourself extra peace of mind. (Just my opinion)
The tool below will help you find a unit to suit your needs, the only thing to watch is if you configure by device and select desktop pc it puts in 100 watts, based on a standard office pc but if you have a gaming machine or CAD workstation it can be 500 or 600 watts.

Hi Solace,
Running two computers and three monitors might be out of the abilities of a small unit like that, can you try a lower load and see if it supports that. i.e. Disconnect everything from the four UPS powered outlets, connected something like a phone charger and disconnect the UPS from the mains. If it supports the lower load but not your computers than the draw is too much.

Correction, I only have 1 pc and three monitors attached to the backup UPS.... and it is actually ten yrs old (wow!) I just found the purchase docket 🙂 So it has done well for ten years, I guess time to buy another one - or replace the battery - bvut the battery on its own is almost as expensive as an entire new unit 😞
