That would explain it. There were some phones that did use more pairs and a larger connector than an rj11, but they were typically digital pbxs that I haven't seen for in the last 10 years.

Unless you have an ethernet interface card, and if there are two ethernet ports, those are actually for inline surge suppression for the ethernet port on your computer. You connect your computer to the ups and then the ups to your ethernet (versus ethernet connected directly to the computer).
Note that when surges are detected the ethernet connection will be disrupted. There may be certain circumstances where this will be undesireable so keep that in mind.

As I said I did conect the ethernet cabel (cat5e gigabit connection) from the wall to the ups and from the ups to the pc without any success.
btw the ethernet ports at the back of the unit are labeled DSL/Modem/Fax/Phone does that mean that it cannot accept gigabit connection?
So is my ups defective? should I return it to get a new one?

If they are labelled dsl/modem/fax/phone it may not support ethernet via those connections if the plug isn't an rj45. Also, be sure you have the right one for input and output as that makes a difference too. I would also try different cables and see if that helps. Marginal cables may not work.

Hi,
The unit does not offer Ethernet protection. The unit offer surge protection to DSL, Modem, Fax, Phone only.

This is interesting because on my units where it says the same thing, it will allow ethernet to pass without an issue (so I'm think it's filtering it).

Indeed the unit offer conection for rj11 and not rj45, however the physical port itself on the unit is rj45 and that is why I was confused and I thought it was faulty. APC need to add to the instructions that the ports at the back are rj11 and not rj45.
