APC 3000

Hello all, I have recently bought a APC 3000 for an application in Spain, it is intended to run a tv ect, not a computer system, it will not be powered by internal batteries but much larger external ones, these batteries are charged by a solar setup, and generator set as I am off grid, what I need help with is the battery run time, I believe that by pressing certain buttons on the front of the unit I can extend the run time till the batteries need a charge, I am sure that this will be a very basic thing to most of you out there , but I did not receive any instructions with the unit, your help in this matter is greatly appreciated, Dave H.

It depends on the exact model, which you can find on a sticker at the back of the UPS. Our newest units, like the [SMX3000|http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SMX3000RMLV2UNC] has an LCD display and buttons to configure the UPS. Older models, like the [SUA3000|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SUA3000] are no longer produced and require a PC for any configuration. If your UPS came with a network management card (NMC), you can also remotely configure and monitor your UPS over the network.

For your needs though, you may not need to do any configuration. You just want it to run on battery until the battery is low, which the UPS does by default.

Hi all, I have downloaded a couple of manuals for the APC 3000 smart UPS, but these do not stipulate the permissable max outages for the output sockets at the rear, and if I will be able to configure the ups useing the on-off buttons on the front panel, like on the older but similar compaq r3000.
Regards Dave H.

Hi Dave,

Using non-APC batteries with the UPS is not recommended because it's not a supported configuration. The UPS will run on battery until the batteries have been depleted. The UPS's reported runtime may not be accurate, however since there's no computer attached via the data cable, it shouldn't matter.

If you want more information or you want to look up the manual, you can find the exact UPS model on a sticker on the back of the UPS.
