This is my situation. I have a collo and in my cage there is spare dual 208V/30A circuit with L6-30 type plug. Usually, I get a PDU (AP7940) that plugs in directly into the circuit and provides me a bunch of C13/C19 connectors....that's the type of a setup that I have for my other racks.
However, I am running out of the standard 5-20 outputs, for some of my network gear and other miscellaneous stuff. I was thinking of getting this product:
http://apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SURT003&tab=models
Which is a combination of a step-down/isolation transformer and plugging my PDUs into that. This way I figure it will power the rack and also give me some extra 5-20 outputs.
Now, I am not sure if this is the right product. According to the documentation it seems to be intended to be used with a UPS. Is that a requirement or just the usual setup? Can it also do both the 110 and 208 output at the same time or just one or the other? I am not even that much concerned about getting the wrong product (that I can ship back), but I am worried that I am going to fry the equipment that will be plugged into it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Art

Art,
A UPS would be the ideal setup, but not at all required.
It will also output 120 and 208 at the same time, so long as you don't exceed 24A total on the transformer.
