I finially got the network to talk.
I installed the PCNS (powerchute Network) app. When i set it up to connect to the NIC (typing in the username passwd and the passcode (all im sure are correct) it says it cannot connect and cannot register???.
Looking in the logs, it says the client connected to port 80 of the nic upon starting the computer.
Do i have a lemon or what am i missing>
TIA

Also, when i login to the APC NIC via web, almost everything says it cannot communicate with the ups like battery status, uptime, etc.
So same q- is it a lemon?

here is more info i came across FWIW:
I have 2 of them and i swapped the NIC and IT WORKS!!!! the server with the Network PowerChute sees the UPS NIC.
At the prompt of the working nic, when i exit i get "passthrough" vs exiting...
I hope there is a simple setting that i missed...
Thanks again.

Hi,
I'd start with telling us the specifics of the Network Management Card Model - something like AP9617/18/19 or AP9630/31.
What you described in your second post could be a firmware problem or communication problem. PowerChute won't work properly with it in this condition. I'd want to know what you see for the firmware and without knowing the model of the Network Management Card, I cannot suggest how to check with certainty. For most Network Management Cards in the web UI, you can check under Administration->General->About and let me know what you see for AOS and APP versions and names. If you have a newer one with green and white interface, you'll want to check under About->Network.
Once we validate the firmware, we can go from there in trying a few things like resetting the UPS communications or fixing the firmware.
When you said:
I have 2 of them and i swapped the NIC and IT WORKS!!!! the server with the Network PowerChute sees the UPS NIC.
Did you swap the same Network Mgmt Card to a different UPS or try a second Network Mgmt Card in the one UPS? I was unclear what you meant by "I have two of them" - whether them was a UPS or Management Card.
And not to worry about exiting passthrough mode, that is normal and means you're no longer interfacing with the Network Mgmt Card but rather the UPS is ready now if you knew how to directly talk to it for a special application.

This is what i have:
AP 9617
Version 372
With UPS "1" installed the card from ups "2" and it worked. i took the working card and moved it back to UPS "2" and the card worked there too.(it shows status of batteries, the client servers can register to this card, etc.) i have a third card i bought seperately - that card acts the same way as the "non working" card that came straight out of the UPS.

OK thanks. Just a few other questions - the version 3.7.2, I need to know the application name it says - it should be something like sy or sumx for the application module name. We need to make sure it is compatible with the particular UPS. And all these UPSs are model SUA2200RM2U?

App module - sy3p or APC OS - aos. both are on the web page. I have 2 of these ups' and another one 1400. After finding the card works on both 2200's. I am now using it on the 1400 (and it works there too). The other card (same model of working card) is still in the 2200 that they came in and still does not talk to the hardware. Thanks again.

No problem. Glad to help.
Your app module for a Smart-UPS product should be sumx. You're saying it is sy3p which is designed to talk to Symmetra 3 phase type UPSs.
This can be addressed easily with re-flashing the firmware with the correct version. I will attach the correct version you should have on the Network Management Cards for an AP9617/18/19 model management card installed inside of a Smart-UPS model UPS. Detailed instructions on upgrading/reflashing it are located here if you need it and running the .exe does not work-> How do I upgrade the firmware on an APC Network Management Card (NMC) or NMC embedded device (Rack P...
