Hello,
Installed our smartups SC-1000 (AP9410) with the serial to usb cable straight to a USB port on the WindowsServer 2003 box. Driver for serial-usb cable installed successfully. Installed APC PBE server and agent successfully.
Since installation 7 days ago, twice we had the eventID 3000 error from the APCPBEAgent "Lost Communication with UPS".
Installed jre-6u1, latest java version successfully. Tried to run the pbeagent.exe in D:\Programs\APC\PowerChute Business Edition\APC\PowerChute Business Edition\agent but get the "StartServiceControlDispatcher failed!" error. wizard.exe runs fine.
Any insight greatly appreciated. Let me know if any info is missing.

Have you upgraded the driver for the cable yet?
The driver was released at the end of last year:

I have the same problem as the original poster, but on Vista. I went to update the driver on Prolific's site, however the page states that I need to contact the manufacturer for Vista drivers. Can anyone post the proper link for Vista?

Hi,
I checked on our end and no Product Managers that have to do with the SC's or with the USB Conversion Cable have drivers from Prolific for the cable. I suppose you could drop Prolific an email and ask them what the deal is. We don't do large quantities on these cables, so it may be for that reason that we do not have the provided drivers.
