I have an L.02 "see manual" showing up on my screen. I knew I needed to replace the batteries and I just swapped those in. The error is still these and it hasn't recognized the new APC batteries either. Does the unit need to reboot?

You’ll find the steps to enter the Configuration Mode on page 11. On page 13 it will show you how to update the system a new battery cartridge has been inserted.

What model is this UPS as each one has a different method to reset the internal counter. Hot swap models can be updated simply by disconnecting the battery cable and waiting for the unit to declare a battery fault. Than reconnect the cable and wait for the new battery installed message (No / Yes) and select Yes than enter the month & Year.
Other APC models you need to press the menu keys in a specific order.
If you’re using Power Chute software you can tell the UPS a new battery has been installed by updating the replace battery (Install Date) information.
If you stated what model UPS on hand the correct LCD Menu guide could be provided.

The model is a SMC-1500C. I've looking thru the manual that came with the unit but there is no mention of installing a new battery or this error. That's why I'm here. I tried disconnecting the battery again but when re-connecting, it does not ask if a new battery was installed. I'm not using Power Chute software.

Sometimes you have to go into the menu and tell it it has a new battery. Usually though you can make it do a self test. By holding down on the power on button.
If neither of those work you can unplug everything from the back of the UPS. Then disconnect the battery. Then unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. After that hold down on the power button. You should hear a beep or click after 5 to 10 seconds. This resets the internals and clears anything out that might be "stuck" in its programing. After that wait about 30 seconds to a minute then reconnect the battery and plug it back into the wall. Then try to power on the device with nothing attached to (plugged into) it. If the fault is gone reconnect you devices to the UPS.

Thanks for this manual. I couldn't find it online anywhere and didn't get one in the box that I'm aware of. I'm not saying the other solutions wouldn't work but this looked to be the simplest and I'm all about simple. thanks.
